Transitioning to Statewide Standards for Timber Harvesting and Related Activities in Shoreland Areas in the Unorganized Territories - Presentation and Field Visit

Beginning January 2026, Maine's Statewide Standards for Timber Harvesting and Related Activities in Shoreland Areas (MFS Chapter 21 rule) will take effect in the Unorganized Territories. Join Maine Forest Service staff for an informational presentation to learn about:

  • The upcoming rule change and its implications for timber harvesting operations in unorganized areas.
  • How the transition will be implemented.
  • Key standards for timber harvesting and related activities in shoreland zones.

This presentation is designed for landowners, loggers, foresters, and other interested parties who want to understand how these changes may impact their operations. This presentation will include a 1.5 hour presentation at the Hancock lumber mill, followed by a visit to a nearby site on actively managed forest lands to see real examples and discuss how these changes impact day to day operations in the field.

Proper Attire for weather conditions, and footwear for wet and uneven ground conditions is advised for those participating in the field visit.
