1. I am looking for my listing as a Notary Public, why can't I find it? This search looks at our database for certain statuses and expiration dates. If your commission has expired, your name will not appear. If your commission status happens to be in some transitional status, it may not appear either. With our previous search functionality, many transitiion statuses would not be selected to be displayed, however, with this new search function, many of these issues have been resovled. 2. How do I find a notary or dedimus in my area? You can search by either a notary public or dedimus justice name. To narrow your search, you can search by county, town/city, last name or first name. Caution: Restricting your search to a first name only will cause a delay in retrieving your search results. A Dedimus Justice is appointed by the Governor of Maine to administer an oath of office to certain public officials like a notary public. The appointment is a lifetime appointment. To apply, go to http://www.maine.gov/sos/cec/notary/dedimus.html. 4. How do I find a notary public who speaks or reads another language? You can now search for a notary public by the language the notary reads or speaks. Simply choose the langauge from the drop down list of languages in our database. You can narrow your search by the town/city or county.
